2018
Angie purchased C&S Blacktopping, Inc., making it a second-generation, women-owned company, and she continues running the company today.
Awards
Since 2020, Finance & Commerce has been honoring Minnesota’s Top Women in Construction, and 2024 was the second year the award coincided with Women in Construction Week.
Women in Construction Week is dedicated to celebrating and promoting women in the construction industry with networking events, site tours, informational sessions, and more.
2024 Top Women in Construction Award Finalist
C&S Blacktopping is a second-generation, family-owned, and operated business that provides asphalt services throughout the Twin Cities area, thanks to Angie Stanton’s strong leadership. Angie, a finalist for the 2024 Top Women in Construction award, learned the ins and outs of the blacktop business from her father and later purchased the company from him. She had a good idea of what it took to run the business and key insight into the industry.
As a strong female entrepreneur, she is committed to her employees’ ongoing education. For example, she offers a commercial driver’s license training program for non-CDL drivers. Additionally, she has expanded the company to include lines of business that can be done during cold-weather months so employees will have year-round work.
Over 55 years later, Angie continues raising the bar on the company’s success. She has continued to grow the C&S Blacktopping team to include non-white and non-male employees in a male-dominated industry. She mentors everyone, especially young women in the industry who may want to consider trucking or construction as a career.
The Future of C&S Blacktopping
The C&S Blacktopping, Inc. team takes pride in every project, as demonstrated by servicing approximately 100+ new home construction builders. Building strong relationships with customers and exceeding their expectations and satisfaction are at the forefront of the business. Angie and the team remain centralized in the Minneapolis and St. Paul 9-county metropolitan area, servicing new build construction, commercial, residential, and snow removal projects.
Women in Construction
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women comprised 10.8% of the construction workforce in 2023. That’s about flat from 2022 but up nearly 2 percentage points from 2010, when women comprised only 8.9%.
